slingbox (watch tv over the internet) for under $200
 this thing lets you watch your home tv across the internet using a windows pc. works with cable, satellite, and dvrs (you can use your tivo with it and watch recorded content as if you were at home). http://www.slingmedia.com/ has a flash demo. circuit city has a $20 coupon that expires today, and sling media is running a promo where they're giving away copies of the software that lets you watch from a windows mobile pda or phone. when you order from circuit city online you can have it shipped to a local store and just pick it up there. click http://www.techbargains.com/cjump.cf...c=1&id=171 to get the coupon, then search for slingbox and add it to your cart if you want one. i have no affiliation with sling, circuit city, or techbargains and i'm not getting anything out of it if you purchase one. i haven't tried it, but it looks like a very cool gadget so that's why i'm buying one and posting about it. mine ended up being $195 delivered with tax. it's at the store already so i'm grabbing it on my way home. i won't be providing tech support.

I use Orb for this purpose. I had to buy a TV tuner card for my PC, but then it's free afterwards.
works great. slingbox is probably a better option if you don't mind spending more or dont want to install a regular tv card in your pc.

Do you need any ethernet cords for this? My place is wireless, and the ethernet cord area is in a different room, would this be a problem? How is the picture quality?

it doesn't support wireless natively. you can always use something like http://tinyurl.com/cuhgc to make that happen.
i have no idea on picture quality, i won't own one until later tonight and i don't think testing it to and from my own internet connection is going to be very effective because it will probably saturate my uplink to the point that downloads are affected. i'll try to see how it goes from work tomorrow.

This thing is pretty cool. A guy sitting next to me at the Wynn last week had it setup with his PDA. The quality is very good and is just like watching TV.
