Well, Mercedes, like Dolores, is a Spanish name referring to one of the attributes of the Blessed Mother (mercy in the case of Mercedes, sorrows in the case of Dolores). In some circles it would be considered, well, disrespectful to associate hooking and stripping with the Blessed Mother....I'm just saying.

OTOH Mercedes always brings to mind Mercedes McCambridge who always played the butch prison warden in chicks in chains flicks....
