Depends on what you mean by "better"

The Central has more parity, with everyone but the Royals pretty much having a shot at taking the division. But the top 2 team in the East are still better than the AL Central champ.

And your basis for this is what? That last year's central champ won the most games? Or that they won the WS? or that the central's second team was 2 games behind both the yankees and red sox- or that the thrid team finished 2 games above .500 without their best offensive player for half the season? The central was every bit as tough as the east last year and looks to be the same way this year.
Also Detriot has no real shot at winning the central division either this year, but htey are getting better.

boston 92
tampa bay 67.5
yankees 97.5
toronto 87
baltimore 74

twins 83
royals 64
tigers 77.5
indians 89.5
white sox 91.5

Al East with the edge of 418 405.5
