Re: 2007 MLB HOF Voting Poll
looking more closely I leave Randolph and Bell out but they have a better case than most people would give them credit for.
Biggio and Trammell obviously should both be in. |

[ QUOTE ] I'll tell you an even bigger travesty is that Sandberg made it and Whitaker didn't even get 5% of the votes. [/ QUOTE ] i think it's pretty clear to baseball analysts that the line for hall of fame credentials is drawn somewhere between sandberg and whitaker. it's too bad whitaker dropped off the ballot, but if he's not a hall of famer, why get upset over it? [/ QUOTE ] Meh. I feel very much that Sandberg is borderline in and Whitaker is borderline out. I think it's a respect thing. It'd be nice to see him on there for ten years, that way people would eventually take a closer look at his numbers and realize how good of a career he actually had. As it is, he will be a forgotten man. |

Re: 2007 MLB HOF Voting Poll
Sorry if this is a hijack but when I was looking up Whitaker's stats, i came across Bill Mazeroski's career stats. Who the hell let this guy into the Hall of Fame? a career line of .260 / .299 / .367 and a career OPS+ of 84. His "peak" season was .275/ .308 / .439. How good of a fielder do you have to be to deserve to be in the HOF with these numbers? I guess that hitting that HR in the World Series put him over the top. I'm not looking forward to Scott Podsednik's induction ceremony.

If you hand me a Hall of Fame ballot, it better have Pete Rose's name on it or all I'm doing with it is wiping my ass. [/ QUOTE ] I thought this was funny. FWIW, I personally think Rose deserves a shot at the Hall...but I can certainly understand people who take the opposite view. |

Re: 2007 MLB HOF Voting Poll
Gwynn and Ripken are the only auto votes for me out of the new entries. I bet Mcgwires stupid steroid ass makes it in there because ya know, he's white, and hit 70 hr's. [censored] that cheating [censored] who was never good in the first place.

My choices: Gwynn Ripken Blyleven Gossage -- there's something really wrong if Sutter makes it and Gossage doesn't. Best reliever of his time. |

Re: 2007 MLB HOF Voting Poll
I'd really love to see someone try to justify voting for Andre Dawson over Alan Trammell.
I'd also love to see someone justify picking: Jim Rice Orel Hershiser Jack Morris Don Mattingly |

I'd really love to see someone try to justify voting for Andre Dawson over Alan Trammell. [/ QUOTE ] I'll try: Dawson played more seasons, had more AB's, scored more runs, had more hits, had more doubles, triples, home runs, rbi's, stolen bases, a higher sb%, an OPS of .038 higher, and more total bases. Tramell's career .285 average did own Dawson's .279 tho. Dawson was also much more of a standout at his position (corner OF), than Trammell was at his position (SS). And yes, Trammell played in a tougher hitters park. I agree. I really think Hawk needs to be in there. |
