2007 MLB HOF Voting Poll

OK, let's pretend that somehow you have a vote for the HOF next year. Who are you voting for?

I've included everyone eligible from last year's ballot and a few newcomers eligible.

Shouldn't there be a limit to how many we can pick?

Yeah, I think we should have the same limit in casting votes as the writers do. How many votes do they get?

They get 10. I really don't think it's going to be a problem.

You're right. From the all-knowing Wikipedia:

Players are currently inducted into the Hall of Fame through election by either the Baseball Writers Association of America (or BBWAA), or the Veterans Committee, which is now composed of living Hall of Famers and recipients of the two major awards. Five years after retirement, any player with 10 years of major league experience, who passes a screening committee (which removes from consideration players of clearly lesser qualification) is eligible to be elected by BBWAA members with 10 years' membership or more. From a final ballot typically including 25-40 candidates, each writer may vote for up to 10 players; until the late 1950s, voters were advised to cast votes for the maximum 10 candidates. Any player named on 75% or more of all ballots cast is elected

Here's my ballot:

1. Cal Ripken, Jr.
2. Tony Gwynn
3. Goose Gossage - no reason Sutter should be in and him not.
4. Alan Trammell - it's a travesty he and Whitaker won't be ale to go in together
5. Bert Blyleven - It's a joke that he's not in
6. Mark McGwire - controversial pick...

I didn't vote for Blyleven or Trammel because I don't know enought about them, but I voted for the other four.

I'm a huge homer and I'm shocked that 5 people voted for Orel Hershiser. He had 3 dominant seasons and was mildly above average for the rest of his career. His career ERA+ is 112. You can compare his favorably to past HOF mistakes like Jim Bunning and Catfish Hunter, but that's about it. And this is coming from someone who dressed up as Orel Hershiser for Halloween one year and uses the handle Hershiser55 when I play in online baseball leagues.
