Default turning pt in my millions tourn. did i screw up?

made the money finishing in 800's but 1 hand really is eating at me. the 1st hand is an illustration of the villains agressive style and how the 1st hand may be a squeeze play. it was hand 210. the second hand is hand 216. the villain is the 2nd all in guy. is my fold way too weak here?

I fold pf in hand 1. AJo is a win a little/lose a lot type hand. Even if you are ahead at this point the hand is not +ev to be overcalling because of the reverse implied odds

Raising and then folding getting 3.3:1 is pretty bad.

If he has JJ+ then you have 30% equity against him and if he has 99+/AQ+ you are 36% to win. He is on the button and can see your slight overbet as a resteal and 99+/AQ+ is a very reasonable pushing range for him since he can't expect you to be folding getting 3.3:1

It sucks to get your money in as a dog but if you were raising this pf you have to call his push.

Also, your raise was too big. If you are planning a go and go you should have made it 22k leaving yourself with a pot sized bet to push any flop.

Well on the second hand:

When the action comes back to you the last time, the pot contains about t100k, and it costs you t30k to call. Those are 3.3 to 1 pot odds. I think I call with most holdings here. And I certainly instacall with AQ. Remember that it would be +EV to call even if the BB shows you AK or KK.

First one I don't really like calling raises with AJo, but that's my preference. This hand doesn't bother me that much as you didn't invest much.

Second hand: you absolutely cannot bet that much and then fold. You simply cannot justify raising half your stack and then folding. Might as well just have called and hoped for the best than playing shortstacked.

Op,

Folding AJ not a bad play at all. At best you are a coinflip, at worst you are dominated. I'd fold.

I think your play on the second hand was bad. Either

(1) GO ALL IN PREFLOP
(2) Call and *Pray* BB doesn't pop it, and if he does fold
(3) Min raise, to let BB KNOW you have a hand.

I prefer 1 or 3. There are pros and cons with both. The all-in may deter medium pairs from calling up to JJ but kills you if BB has QQ+.

The min raise gives some people the motivation to try for FOLD EQUITY with hands like 77 thru JJ, maybe AQs. Alot of players are gamblers. Giving away a third of your stack when you are a coinflip to win is -EV.

Alot of poker is taking chances. Some times it pays, sometimes it doesn't. But putting in half your stack only to fold is foolish, IMO.

Your raise preflop is far to0 big, around 20K or so will do the same thing. As played, you have to call the push from bb.
