Innocent Faux Pas
Utah and I were talking about times when we embarassingly spoke too quickly.
I was in the 11th hour of a 12 hour shift this last weekend and had a patient that was a paraplegic. She is in her 2nd trimester and there for evaluation of abdominal pain. As part of my usual assesmment I ask if she has felt her baby kicking or moving around. She replies, "She is moving constantly, never stops" I then(stupidly) say, "Well, she will keep you on your toes." A moment of uncomfortable silence and I move right along to the next question. Utah tells me about being on the board of a nonprofit called African American Family Services(the only white guy) During a meeting, he comments that he often has a difficult time getting through-he is told that they use receptionists and do not have voice mail. Utah then asks the board, "Don't you think you should come out of the dark ages?" He then looks up into a sea of unhappy faces... So, just wondering, what are your social blunders? |
