Innocent Faux Pas

Utah and I were talking about times when we embarassingly spoke too quickly.

I was in the 11th hour of a 12 hour shift this last weekend and had a patient that was a paraplegic.
She is in her 2nd trimester and there for evaluation of abdominal pain. As part of my usual assesmment I ask if she has felt her baby kicking or moving around.
She replies, "She is moving constantly, never stops"
I then(stupidly) say, "Well, she will keep you on your toes."
A moment of uncomfortable silence and I move right along to the next question.

Utah tells me about being on the board of a nonprofit called African American Family Services(the only white guy)
During a meeting, he comments that he often has a difficult time getting through-he is told that they use receptionists and do not have voice mail. Utah then asks the board, "Don't you think you should come out of the dark ages?"
He then looks up into a sea of unhappy faces...

So, just wondering, what are your social blunders?

Sounds like you've both been withholding sex from each other too often.

Why would they be upset about the dark ages comment? It clearly had nothing to do with race.

a co-worker's husband committed suicide. About 3 weeks later, she comes back to work.

She says "Hey, how are you?"

Me, aka [censored]: "I'm alive."

true story. I felt like [censored]. Haven't talked to her since. (Mainly cause I work from home now)

mia,

I dunno, it was one of those things. I mean, her husband blowing his head off while she was on the phone with him had just recently happened and I felt horrible for her. I was thinking of that and my tongue said alive when I meant "ok".

I suck sometimes. [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

my good friend's mother passed away recently and twice i've said "your mom..." in the joking way one does like when napoleon dynamite's brother says "your mom goes to college" after the chick at the door says she's trying to raise money for college.

i felt like absolute [censored] after i did this (twice).
