NL25: AQ hits TPTK and gets mincheckraised on turn
Villain is solid over appr. 100 hands with 22/14. Was almost pushing but didnt see a single hand i beat that is checkraising me like this?!? A flushdraw, if betting, would have pushed all in or called, right? Now i layed it down, cause those are the hands im losing my money with.
Could you guys check my line? Re: NL25: AQ hits TPTK and gets mincheckraised on turn
The fold is good.
I would prefer to check behind on the turn and control the pot. I wouldn't put him on a flush draw often enough to build a big pot with a marginal hand. If his hand isn't made, mostly he's drawing to 3-5 outs. Sometimes he's drawing to 9+. In either case, we aren't going broke on the river if he makes his hand. small hands == small pots |

Re: NL25: AQ hits TPTK and gets mincheckraised on turn
of course as i see the hand now with the checkraise i wish i would have checked the turn to call a river bet and keep the pot small. but in general: do you actually check the top pair with ace kicker here with two hearts on board? then i have to change my basic style of play. i think its more painful to donate a free card most of the times here?!

Re: NL25: AQ hits TPTK and gets mincheckraised on turn
I check marginal hands out of position quite regularly, 2 hearts or no. Some people will certainly disagree. Fair enough. They may well be right. But, I value pot control over what is likely a slim draw, especially out of position. I'm not going to build a big pot to protect my hand. I'm going to try to wrangle a small pot to protect my stack. At the core of my game, I try to win big pots with big hands and limit my losses out of position, especially with marginal hands. Sometimes I get drawn out on and pay a guy off for a small bet on the end. As often as that happens, get paid off by QJ when he bets on the end.
This article describes your hand almost exactly. http://www.notedpokerauthority.com/artic...small-pots.html The core choice is around classifying the villain as passive and predictable or more capable of bluffing. I tend to lean towards the latter in the face of convincing evidence one way or the other with this sort of hand. So, I check. |

Re: NL25: AQ hits TPTK and gets mincheckraised on turn
yeah - check behind on the turn on this board. There is only one draw out there that he most likely doesn't have. Check on the turn is good for pot control and also good for extracting more value from worse hands that wouldn't have called a turn bet.

Here we're IN position, not out of position.

You're right. My mistake. I still check.
