[ QUOTE ]
Im thinking about taking a day off and going threw every poker room in AC and asking if there looking for dealers.

[ QUOTE ]
I suggest you go to college during college and learn things like through/threw and there/their.

There is nothing necessarily wrong with correcting other people's grammar, but you should probably make sure that your correction is correct. In the original post, it should be "they're," not "there" or "their."

Thanks, I'm threw with my rant.

Do dealers in Vegas or Cali make significantly more money than AC dealers? I'm contemplating a move and dealing is really my only career option unless I decide to finish college.

Eh, I disagree that AC dealers are "overpaid" - how can any occupation that depends on tips really be overpaid? Especially when you consider all of the drawbacks. Many are let go during the slow months, many others can't get full time hours and benefits. And of course, they take crap that would get you thrown out of just about any other business establishment.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am comparing what they do to the rest of the world. What job pays $30 an hour in S. Jersey that doesn't require a college degree or doing anything overly unpleasant or exhausting? I have been a dealer and a bartender and dealing is not hard work while I would consider bartending the most taxing job I've ever had. Some would argue that dealing with the public is difficult but I managed a customer service division at a hospital and my employees made $11/hour and dealt with way tougher customers than you find in a poker room.

[ QUOTE ]
The market crunch you're talking about has more to to with the time of year it is, and the fact that one of our casinos just closed down (we only have about 13-14 casinos to begin with, so that's a fair percentage of dealers out of work right now).

[/ QUOTE ]

I disagree but only time will tell. There are more former food service people, floor dealers, poker clerks etc working as poker dealers than ever before and there are no new tables opening in AC. When I went to dealer school there was a cocktail waitress, slot tech and floor dealer in my class and all are still waiting for poker dealer jobs, I think this has been a pretty strong trend over the last year or two.

There's nothing to support that - in fact, the whole city is expanding. Borgata did an expansion, Trump has his on the way, the former Sands is to become a mega-resort. There may be up 4 new casinos coming. It was a record casino year for the city. On top of all that, there's a new dealer school opening in EHT.

There are dealers in classes that ended last month that are working at the Hilton and Caesars now, so there are at least some positions out there. It's just slow, just like every other winter is slow.

As far as the money: $30/hour is no sure thing, esp at the lower limits, and when you have to work PT hours it's almost a joke.
