Post one or more courses that you like to play. Local, resort, international, who cares. Some info about the course would be a plus.
I've got a few, but here's one to start: Minneapolis: Francis A. Gross. A decent muni. Easy to walk, mature trees. Old school course at a great price ($28). |

Winston-Salem, NC: Tanglewood
Another insanely good value. Hosted a Senior Tour event. Park of a giant park complex, so no houses/condos. |

The greens weren't quite back yet which was disappointing, but for $30 or whatever, it's a great track and very difficult. |

HDPM,
While the piece of land may be equivalent or better, I'm not really worried about Papago becoming the next Torrey Pines or Bethpage Black. However, this is mostly because TP and BP are on the Pacific Ocean and near NYC, respectively. That has huge allure for the USGA. At present, Papago just overcame a couple of years of horrific underfunding where they didn't overseed ANYTHING but the greens and the course was in ruin. Now they have nice fairways, awesome greens, an improved pro shop (although the entire clubhouse/restaurant complex is totally pathetic, and I'm not picky). A multi-million dollar improvement of the course is inevitable, it's just too nice and scenic a piece of land to do otherwise, and too many people realize this. Plus it's pretty close to some very well-off parts of town with too many regulars with influence to be ignored. It still holds a ridiculous Monday skins game loaded with scratch golfers. They set it up to yield very few birdies, and it still hosts Phoenix Open qualifying. Improvements could make it a top five muni in the country, but it would never host a major since it's 170,000 degrees here during major season. EDIT: thanks for the comment about my round. Funniest part was I showed up so late I met them on the first green, three-putted for par on that hole, and then promptly bogied the next (very easy) hole. Didn't see the onslaught coming. |

Redlands Mesa
My favorite in western Colorado. No tour events or anything, but breath taking views and numerous elevated tees, plus it's within 1 mile of my house. Edited for a better link. |

Oh well, we used to 4 wheel in there there for free and drink beer, now I pay 75 bucks and ride in an electric cart and drink beer. It's one of those courses that is very challenging for a player like me, (and you, from what I've seen, we are on about the same golf page) but hella fun at the same time. |

[/ QUOTE ] I want to play some Engh courses. Dunno if I will like all of his stuff or not. Wanted to try to play Fossil Trace last summer but the scheduling didn't work in the trip to Denver. In general I need to play more courses and started trying to last year. So many courses even nearby I have not been to. One Engh course way up north in my state, but it will be a hassle to get to. As far as Colorado courses I ahve always been partial to Wellshire in Denver. Not the best I suppose, but I played there a lot. Old Donald Ross muni that has suffered much abuse. Have not played there in a while and the last time some things had been done that probably aren't in line with the original design. I never tried to learn much about course design until recently, but always wondered why I liked that one better than others. After reading some stuff by and about Ross I understood some of it more. I don't think he had a huge hand in building it and it isn't his best, but his touch is there. Worth the low price to play it if in Denver, even with crowds and slow play. Back in the day it had a Publinx and tour event. |
