Course Thread

Post one or more courses that you like to play. Local, resort, international, who cares. Some info about the course would be a plus.

I've got a few, but here's one to start:

Minneapolis: Francis A. Gross. A decent muni. Easy to walk, mature trees. Old school course at a great price ($28).

Winston-Salem, NC: Tanglewood

Another insanely good value. Hosted a Senior Tour event. Park of a giant park complex, so no houses/condos.

Redlands Mesa

My favorite in western Colorado. No tour events or anything, but breath taking views and numerous elevated tees, plus it's within 1 mile of my house.

Edited for a better link.

I want to play some Engh courses. Dunno if I will like all of his stuff or not. Wanted to try to play Fossil Trace last summer but the scheduling didn't work in the trip to Denver. In general I need to play more courses and started trying to last year. So many courses even nearby I have not been to. One Engh course way up north in my state, but it will be a hassle to get to.

As far as Colorado courses I ahve always been partial to Wellshire in Denver. Not the best I suppose, but I played there a lot. Old Donald Ross muni that has suffered much abuse. Have not played there in a while and the last time some things had been done that probably aren't in line with the original design. I never tried to learn much about course design until recently, but always wondered why I liked that one better than others. After reading some stuff by and about Ross I understood some of it more. I don't think he had a huge hand in building it and it isn't his best, but his touch is there. Worth the low price to play it if in Denver, even with crowds and slow play. Back in the day it had a Publinx and tour event.

Yeah, the funny thing is, we used to party in the hills they built that course on. Oh well, we used to 4 wheel in there there for free and drink beer, now I pay 75 bucks and ride in an electric cart and drink beer.

It's one of those courses that is very challenging for a player like me, (and you, from what I've seen, we are on about the same golf page) but hella fun at the same time.

Seems like there are so many new courses in the Denver metro area. When I get there I am trying out new ones, but there are a bunch. I have heard good things about Redlands Mesa. Never played it tho.
