Default Vegas on a budget

So me and my buddies are making our first Vegas trip this week now that we are all 21. However being the poor college students we are, we want to spend as little money as possible. We already have a timeshare for the week at the Summer Bay Resort, so room is not a problem. The two main items are food and poker.

After reading through all the restaurant thread, I have come to the conclusion that everyone here is much more balla than me. I simply do not have the cash to eat an $80 steak at Delmonico's.

So my first question is, where can we eat for cheap that still tastes like real food?

And my second question deals with bankroll issues. Because of withdrawals due to real life I only have a roll of 1500. I play $50 and $100 NL games online, but from what I've read there aren't many games under 1/2 NL. What games and places will I be able to play at?

If you have a roll of $1500, just go ahead and play 1/2 NL. You're in Vegas. Take a chance!!! MGM, Venetian and Caesar's all have VERY beatable 1/2 NL games.

Do it.

As for decent food ... there are a couple of Subways and Noodles around

Well I'm definitely willing to play the 1/2 games. I just don't want to lose my whole bankroll with a week of bad variance just because I'm playing up.

You won't. You could play 1/2 NL for an entire weekend on $600, let alone $1500.

You'll be shocked how bad the majority of players are ... it's like playing .10/.25 online.

The whole point of playing poker in Vegas is to play tourists. Tourists aren't going to frequent the out-of-the-way dives that have micro-limit poker.

As for where to eat, Vegas is a city of a million people. It has the same low and mid-priced restaurants that any other city might.

If you are really that conerned, buyin for $100 and not $200

I am not sure how much live poker experience you have but $1500 is a bigger roll than 90% of you competition probably has - It should really be so ABC that variance isnt a big issue

Eat once per day at buffets in good casinos (~$25, very very good food from what I've heard).

I'm in pretty much the exact same situation as you, going to LV for spring break on Tuesday. I'm planning on playing the $50 min/max $1/$2 NL game at Luxor (where I'm staying). It will take a damn long time to lose all my gamboooling money in that game.

One question I have is what are some good value non-gambling activities you can do on the strip? Like how much would it be to ride the stuff at the top of stratosphere, for eg?

My only live experience is playing limit at Canterbury. No live NL experience.

Yeah, me and my roommates all leave tomorrow morning. I heard some about the $50 game at the Luxor, but aren't the blinds 1/1, not 1/2? I dunno, I just read about it in another thread a week ago. I will definitely play that game if I am running bad.

I forgot to ask this as well. As much as I love poker, I might need a few breaks during the week. I looked at shows/concerts but everything seemed to be at least $100. There is no show in the world cool enough for me to spend that much. Although I did see that Carrot Top is at the Luxor for around $55. I would love to get drunk as hell and see him.

Be careful in that game. I played there last July and I seem to remember people buying in for $50 and people would be all in for $50 preflop. I lost $100 in 1/2 an hour getting pocket kings snapped off, etc. I hate that game!

Start with 200NL and move up to 500NL if you run hot. You won't believe how soft the games are.
