Vegas on a budget

So me and my buddies are making our first Vegas trip this week now that we are all 21. However being the poor college students we are, we want to spend as little money as possible. We already have a timeshare for the week at the Summer Bay Resort, so room is not a problem. The two main items are food and poker.

After reading through all the restaurant thread, I have come to the conclusion that everyone here is much more balla than me. I simply do not have the cash to eat an $80 steak at Delmonico's.

So my first question is, where can we eat for cheap that still tastes like real food?

And my second question deals with bankroll issues. Because of withdrawals due to real life I only have a roll of 1500. I play $50 and $100 NL games online, but from what I've read there aren't many games under 1/2 NL. What games and places will I be able to play at?

If you have a roll of $1500, just go ahead and play 1/2 NL. You're in Vegas. Take a chance!!! MGM, Venetian and Caesar's all have VERY beatable 1/2 NL games.

Do it.

As for decent food ... there are a couple of Subways and Noodles around

Well I'm definitely willing to play the 1/2 games. I just don't want to lose my whole bankroll with a week of bad variance just because I'm playing up.

You won't. You could play 1/2 NL for an entire weekend on $600, let alone $1500.

You'll be shocked how bad the majority of players are ... it's like playing .10/.25 online.

The whole point of playing poker in Vegas is to play tourists. Tourists aren't going to frequent the out-of-the-way dives that have micro-limit poker.

As for where to eat, Vegas is a city of a million people. It has the same low and mid-priced restaurants that any other city might.

Start with 200NL and move up to 500NL if you run hot. You won't believe how soft the games are.

Ellis Island Restaurant has incredibly cheap but great tasting food. I think you can get a whole baked chicken and a rack of ribs for under $12. It really is good food too! We eat there everytime we're in Vegas!

Downtown casinos offer a pretty decent fare of food for a cheap price. There are alot of places that hace .99 hot dogs, .99 shrimp cocktails...just have to find them. With your bankroll you shouldn't have to much problem getting food.

Good Luck!

Awesome, I remember hearing about that place but could not for the life of me remember the name of it.

Well yeah, but I was hoping to eat somewhere that wasn't in every other city.

You might hit some of the casino websites and check out their dining options. They will usually break it down into fine dining and casual. Casual is what you are looking for.

Think most of the large casinos have food court type setups with places offering quick, inexpensive foods. Subway, Ben & Jerry, KrispyKreme, and assorted coffee places are everywhere it seems. The NYNY casino has something called the Village Eateries which appears to have some options--says average check is $8-$9 per person.

Also, most poker rooms give $1 an hour in comps that can be used toward food (Bellagio and Mirage being exceptions there.) You can usually use those dollars at most of the casino's restaurants.

Edit: Lots of coffee shops offer good breakfast specials starting at midnight or so. Plenty of food for a good price. Nothing like topping off a night of poker and booze with a good hearty breakfast.
