Default 6-12 live AJ pairs on river

BB is a 50ish old man who plays for enjoyment and often purposelyfully does not maximize his made hands. In fact, after being kind of criticized by another player after winning a hand with 3 Q's but checked the river on an uncoordinated board, he said that he doesn't have a lot of gamble.

9 handed full ring. I am UTG+1.

UTG folds, I raise A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], MP2 calls, BTN calls, SB folds, BB calls.

Flop: Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
BB checks, I continuation bet, MP2 folds, BTN folds, BB calls.

Turn: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
BB checks, I check

River: A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
BB bets, I ?

I would appreciate comments on the turn check and river decision.

I don't mind the turn check presuming you were planning to fold the river UI; though without knowing his flop peeling standards I would bet the turn as a default.
On the river I don't think it matters much what you do - I doubt he'd bet without an Ace and he won't 3bet 2pair.

i think you could definately throw in a raise here. The only hands i see that beat you are AK, A7, A3, 45.

River: Raise and fold to a 3bet.

Against the player you described I would simply call.

I think Villain could easily have Ahxh. Or maybe he peeled with Ax on the flop. I also don't think the risk of being 3 bet is that great, often unless he has a set, people like him just call river raises, and I've seen people just call a raise on the river in spots like this, 'fearing I had AA'

Edit: After reading description more, I think I might just call. The only way a raise makes sense is if you think you have a better hand here more than 50% of the time, and just don't think you can expect that against this player.

When I am checking the turn HU it is with the intention of calling a river bet. Essentially, this is inducing bluffs? Why are you saying fold this river UI?

Because inducing bluffs from ultra-passive old men makes no sense! If you think you are ahead, you are simply giving free cards.

Ah, I didn't consider the read. Now I understand everyone is so convinced about betting the turn.
