6-12 live AJ pairs on river

BB is a 50ish old man who plays for enjoyment and often purposelyfully does not maximize his made hands. In fact, after being kind of criticized by another player after winning a hand with 3 Q's but checked the river on an uncoordinated board, he said that he doesn't have a lot of gamble.

9 handed full ring. I am UTG+1.

UTG folds, I raise A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], MP2 calls, BTN calls, SB folds, BB calls.

Flop: Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
BB checks, I continuation bet, MP2 folds, BTN folds, BB calls.

Turn: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
BB checks, I check

River: A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
BB bets, I ?

I would appreciate comments on the turn check and river decision.

I don't mind the turn check presuming you were planning to fold the river UI; though without knowing his flop peeling standards I would bet the turn as a default.
On the river I don't think it matters much what you do - I doubt he'd bet without an Ace and he won't 3bet 2pair.

i call, this is aces up so often (at least that's what happens to me live)

i think you could definately throw in a raise here. The only hands i see that beat you are AK, A7, A3, 45.

River: Raise and fold to a 3bet.

Against the player you described I would simply call.

I think Villain could easily have Ahxh. Or maybe he peeled with Ax on the flop. I also don't think the risk of being 3 bet is that great, often unless he has a set, people like him just call river raises, and I've seen people just call a raise on the river in spots like this, 'fearing I had AA'

Edit: After reading description more, I think I might just call. The only way a raise makes sense is if you think you have a better hand here more than 50% of the time, and just don't think you can expect that against this player.

Re: 6-12 live AJ pairs on river

In a previous hand, I raised preflop with KQ. Older guy checked, I bet on a missed flop, Villian called. We both checked the turn and river as I did not pair either of my overcards. Older guy flopped a pair and made a straight on the river.

Back to this hand, I raised and the older guy called with AQ.

I agree that calling the river was the better choice. He wasn't the type to call down with AK unimproved yet calling with any pair and rivering Aces up was not something I considered. Any other player would have check-raised the turn had i bet or 3 bet the river.

Thanks everybody for chiming in.

He's weak tight, so if he raises watchout. By your description if he calls a raise watchout.

The nice thing is that if you raise and he 3-bets you can easily muck. But does the raise have any value? Probably not, this is barely worth a call, if you have described the player correctly.
