Dark/sombre graphics are better for your eyes(excessive screen brightness/contrast is probably the main cause of your eye strain).
Not true you want your screen refresh to be a lot higher - 75/85hz...

why don't you try an overload/overcompensation stategy instead ?
Move down to 25nl for a session and play 8 tables - start off with a couple of 30min sessions then a longer session say 2 hours. 4...

If you're playing 50 or 100nl think of it this way.
150+ hands per table/hour
@ 50nl = 1 stack+, that has "disappeared"
@ 100nl = prolly 2/3 of a stack has "disappeared"
