Re: $40-$80 mix at Bellagio

Pardon my ignorance, but "it's the toughest 40/80 mixed in town!" ??

Isn't it also "the softest 40/80 mixed in town?"

And "the sexiest", "the loudest", etc...

Are there other 40/80 mix games...

Re: Mixed Games at Casino Arizona

Would be nice to get a 30-60 or 40-80 stud/8 ONLY game going on a regular basis. <sigh>

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 2

Wow... I think your post summarizes my thinking very closely - I didn't realize this was my thought process until you posted this, but yeah the aspects you discuss were in my head, somewhere!

Cool...

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 2

Don't know if it's standard but it's not uncommon at CAZ by certain aggro-types to raise the turn on a draw and/or "just because" and/or a scare card hits and/or if they think you'll fold. I've...

Re: Mixed Games at Casino Arizona

There is no poker at "the other CAZ" - the only room is at Indian Bend, and that's the location of the new building once it is finished.

I don't have TONS of experience, but maybe 6-7 sessions...

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 1

Yeah, I usually will raise the flop if a semi-tricky player leads into me (which is RARE), but I also check behind on more flops than almost anyone else I play with (a possible leak). This is...

Crazy Pineapple - winrates, variance, etc...

Didn't find much on a search.

I sometimes play in a 40-80 mix game where one of the games that gets called occasionally is Crazy-P. I *thought* I was playing this solidly, but since I might only...

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 1

Wow I have a lot to learn still... this is only the 2nd time I've ever folded aces on the flop and both times, maybe due to luck, I was correct in doing so.

I guess I was thinking backwards, in...

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 3

Forgot to post results:

After check-calling the turn and river, maniac says "nice hand" and turns over 88. After turning over my 99, the UTG/JJ guy got up and moved his seat.

I was pretty...

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 2

I don't think I've ever done the bet/fold line, and conceptually I'm struggling with it but I'll have to try it on.

I don't like what I did this hand either, which is to check the river and have...

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 1

tessarji - what does I hate it mean? I hate the flop? Hate the fold on the turn? Please explain.

mongidig - I think I just called because I was thinking "SB knows I play tight, knows I'm going to...

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 2

WMB - thank you for the response... and I'm still learning this, and I get stubborn. If I'm going to bet/fold (putting 80 in and folding if I get raised) why wouldn't I just check-call (putting in...

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 3

I called primarily to see if UTG would cap; he didn't.

I did lead out on the flop to put the most pressure on UTG and to see if he raised, and if so, if UTG+1/semi-maniac 3-bet it.

So action on...

Re: CAZ 40-80 Hand 3

The UTG will play solid and not get crazy/out of line. The UTG+1 will bet/raise an unimproved pair of deuces or A-rag the same way as if he had AA the whole way.

I ended up flat-calling, although...

CAZ 40-80 Hand 3

Middle of the day, mostly regulars.

UTG raises. He is very solid, aggressive, smart player whom I respect. UTG+1 3-bets (this is an unthinking LAG who will 3bet a large range of hands).

I am in...

CAZ 40-80 Hand 2

Mid-afternoon, mostly regulars. I've been super-tight last hour - played 2 hands as a couple of maniacs have been going at it. In the last 15 minutes we've had 3 hands get capped preflop with AT...

CAZ 40-80 Hand 1

Midmorning, table is full but just started. Mostly regulars.

MP limper, I raise red AA in MP, SB & BB call. My image s/b tight. SB older "grizzly" type not scared; loves A-rag, broadway cards, and...

Re: Filing as a \"pro\" - minimum number of hours required?

Let's agree that just because we think something makes sense or not doesn't have any bearing on what the IRS thinks.

You are preaching to the choir with those arguments... and I made very similar...

Re: Filing as a \"pro\" - minimum number of hours required?

Um, I am NOT an expert at all in taxes, and obviously if you follow any advice on an internet board without follow up you deserve what you get.

That having been said, my understand is that no one...

Re: Filing as a \"pro\" - minimum number of hours required?

Correct, no 9-5 job. 18+ years of corporate life is enough, TYVM.

As is often the case with IRS regulations, whether we agree with them or not, or whether they make sense to us, matters little...

Re: Best book for a player thinking of going pro (taxes etc)

Neither of these books (nor other books) will be as comprehensive as hiring a good local tax pro/CPA - although both are pretty good (as is Gambler's Guide to Taxes) at giving you a basic foundation,...
