I was just wondering how to play a SnG when you reach the final two. When the blinds are big (you have like newhere from 7-15 along with the opponent). Are you supposed to play a lot of hands? Or folding a lot and raising all in when you decide to play? I could use some pointers here.

I guess you mean 7-15 big blinds when you say, (you have like newhere from 7-15 along with the opponent, but when heads-up you should play more hands than when you do when there are several people left. Because the blinds are so high you are probably more inclined to going all-in faster than normal, but in my opnion this depends on your chip stack too. If you are HU and have the other player dominated in chips, you can fold a lil' more. You should when you have the short stack in that situation, don't do it with the likes of 6-2 etc. But you should be aggressive, although i think it's a bit diffucult when in a SNG at times, again because of the blinds...But still chances enough for 1st place...

If you don't play well HU then you could push all-in with any of the top 30-40% of hands I guess.
If you are the small blind, then you act first PF and last on the flop, you can just call with anything as you are getting 2:1. If you are the BB, you act first on the flop, so you will want to raise with good hands to take control of the betting and try to win it PF. |

My advice is to play lots and lots of HU sngs. Since I started doing this, my confidence (and my bankroll) has never been higher.
I got HU tonight in a $20 mtt, and started at a 1:3 chip disadvantage (although I was still 25 bb deep). Once I had whittled my opponent down so he had only a 2:3 lead, he switched to a push or fold strategy that negated my postflop advantage (IMO a very smart adjustment). Once he switched to push/fold mode, I was fortunate enough to pick up 2 big hands to take it down. Had this not happened, he reverted to being the favourite just by virtue of his stack size. Point being: 1) If you think you are outmatched switch to push/fold mode 2) Don't accept mediocrity. Practice HU matches. Hope this helps... |
