I play no limit, mainly .25 .50 and .50 1.00. Lately i've been having tough decions in playing out of the blinds. I'll have a hand like 5 8 off and the flop will come 4 6 8 rainbow. There will be 2 or 3 other limpers in the pot. When I do bet in this situation, I usually get 1 or 2 callers. Since i am first to act every time I'm not sure how to play these hands and I usually wind up checking it down or folding, because i'm not sure the right way to play hands like these. Any suggestions would be greatly apprecciated. TY

reverse implied odds.
with that flop I am betteing because you may have the best hand now and you also have a gutter. sucks if you make two pair on turn cuz then u got a tough decision to make. if flop came something like A K J and I have A5, I usually check and lead a blank turn because of reverse implied odds. you may be ahead now but you will probably end up putting in a lot of money in later streets when you are outdrawn (unless you play perfect poker). |

tighten up a lot out of the blinds. i lose more money from the blinds than from any other position, not because i'm posting blinds but because i go too far with marginal hands.
i see nothing wrong with check/folding top pair oop in a multiway pot. HU is another story, here you get to make some reads and make some decisions. |

When I do bet and I get called, should I lead the turn as long as there are no scare cards. If so how much. And also if I get called by 2 or more do I put the brakes on?

i see nothing wrong with check/folding top pair oop in a multiway pot. [/ QUOTE ] This is my standard line. You gotta think, ok, suppose you bet the flop with top pair crap kicker, and you get called. Are you hoping for the turn and river to check through when you don't improve? How often do you think this will happen? Are you check/calling on the turn or river? Can check/calling ever be +EV? If you get called on the flop, do you really think betting the turn or river is +EV? My conclusion: reverse implied odds + bad position = teh suck. check/fold |

I prefer leading with bottom or middle pair to leading with TPNK.
That way, your outs are more likely to be clean, and you can give up more easily when called. Also, your implied odds are a bit better, since they won't expect you to be leading with middle or bottom pair. Whether or not I'll do it has to do mostly with board texture, number of players, and of course, reads. |

[/ QUOTE ] It's funny you say that, I was just pondering this like 3 days ago. If I feel like check/raising a limped pot from the blinds is right if I flop a monster, I think I might do it some with bottom pair no kicker, espically if bottom pair is a 2 or 3. And of course if my 3 two pair outs don't fill a likely straight or flush. |

Check-raise this flop if the table is aggressive. If they are passive, lead out. When you get called, go ahead and bet the turn about half the time, check half the time. Of course you don't check-raise if it goes bet, call, call, raise or anything like that.
The idea with hands like these from the blinds is to set up future hands when you flop the goods. For example: Hand A: You have K5 in BB, flop is 235r, you lead out. Turn is a 9, you bet sometimes here, but mostly you're done with this hand so you're checking the turn. Now your opponent will often bet behind and you probably just give up the pot much of the time. Hand B: you have 64 on the 235r flop. You lead out. You check just about any turn save maybe a paired board. Sometimes your opponent will bet and you can checkraise, especially if you tend to lead flops out of the blinds but give up on the turn with some frequency. Other times he will check behind and you can value bet the river and get some pretty thin calls that you might not have gotten had you just kept leading into it. Overall, your 85 hand isn't going to win you money on its own, but you should be thinking of playing hands like that in a way that sets up your monsters. |
