This is the job I want to pursue. The problem is I have 0 experience in the finance sector, just another kid who played poker in the summer to pay for tuition. For the Canadians i have my Canadian Securities, Conducts and Practices and Derivatives Fundamental Course from the CSI. These certifications don't exactly = the CFA but they are def a start.
I’m 21 and heading into the home stretch at university, have about 1 month left at Western Ontario. Who is going to hire me is the question? Should i pursue my CFA? My problem with this is I will have all accreditations and no real experience. Should I do some excel courses? Database courses? I wanted to be an Investment Advisor, but was turned off it after a meeting with some IAs. Its basically a sales man role. How does one make themselves marketable? I feel applying through monster.ca or workopolis is fruitless, they must get hundreds and probably place someone internally or someone who knows someone. My new approach is to lookup the jobs that interest me and then trying to find a phone # and ask general questions, show genuine interest. Maybe im being too cynical. Any specific/gneeral advice/suggestions? |
