Default C-betting flop HU

I always c-bet the flop HU. But looking at my overly high Flop AF and how things turn out sometimes, I'm beginning to wonder if there are times when checking would be better. I'd like to put up a few flops for consideration, but before I do that I'd like to be sure that I'm not completely wrong. Say only the BB, who's a bit on the loose side without being terribly so, calls your pfr. Are there flops you wouldn't c-bet?

obviously, you don't want to c-bet every flop. HU, there are no flops,I don't c-bet except when playing wa/wb, trying to induce, or up against a maniac.

What if you're playing a guy who calls the flop quite lightly but is quite passive, you're holding something like 98s and the flop was bad for you? Might it not be better to check and hopefully see the turn for free? I know there aren't a lot of guys like that at 2/4+, but there are at 1/2.

I try to mix it up a bit. I think I check the worst hands (20%) or sometimes check/raise against loose caller with good hands. This makes them harder for them to interpret my bets. Should not bet 100%.

if he's that loose then I either open limp or fold. If he's a chronic flop peeler then I bet both flop and turn.
