Default 1/2 HU, JJ first hand

Game: FTP 1/2 NL HU

literally the first hand
Hero: $100
villain: $100

villain min raises to 4, Hero r/r to 12 with J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], villain thinks and pushes for 100, Hero...

anyway who knows whats going on here? i obviously have no read on the player... who knows maybe he just dropped a few hundred and is on extreme tilt, or on the other hand he could obviously have one of the 3 hands that has me dominated... probably should wait, not worth the gamble yet but what do u think?

For half stacks I think its a pretty easy call especially at the 1-2 nl game. I'd say a lot of his range is 7s-Aces. Let's say its a little scewed more to the top but still I think 88 and such is a definitely possibility. However, I'd say his most likely holding is AK, and you're beating that plus have 1/10 of stack invested.

This is a definite call, you have no reason to think hes tight, a lot of times people go to play HU (especially with 1/2 stacks) to blow of steam or tilt. Also I generally loosen up a tad first hand because sometimes youll get some random guy just come push A4o or some [censored].

auto-call.
I'd give you an 80 percent chance of being againt a tilting player or a donkey. Given this is true, 30 percent Ax (maybe even soooooooted), 30 pecent underpair, 40 percent 2 under cards.

I'd say there is a 20 percent chance of a strong hand. Say 50 percent over pair, and 50 percent 2 over cards.

.8(.3*.68+.3*81+.4*83)+.2(.5*19+.5*.56)=.63 chance of winning. And I think i'm being conservative. If I added wrong, sorry, but I'm very tired.

Call, not too many hands that are better than JJ, especially HU.

I cant fold that. His line is scary (minraise and push after reraise) but its the first hand so no read.

If I play against a nit I think I can lay down that but not against an unknown player and not at the first hand.

By the way: QQ is a very easy call in this situation. TT is a fold in my opinion.

Insta-call. This guy definitely thinks you're just trying to make a move since it's the first hand. I play a massive amount HU and I find the first hand an important and unique hand that often dictates, somewhat, the flow of the game. I think the first hand is almost a seperate game to the one you play from the second hand and on.

Here are my own personal rules for the first hand:

1) Only raise premium group I hands. Raising the first hand immediately gives your opponent the impression that you're going to want to be aggressive. Yes, you want that but, and it's happened so often, they'll say to themself, "Raising the first hand...I'll show this guy!" and repop. Too many opponents don't believe you in the first hand moreso than any other hand. They will call down very light on the first hand so make sure you've got the goods if you were the preflop raiser.

2) Always Always play the hand and never fold it even to a std. raise pre-flop. I don't care if I've got 72o, if my opp is making a std. raise, I'm calling it and I will even call a flop bet with complete air. Gives the impression that you're not going to roll over and get [censored]. In turn, it's often the case that they've got complete air so I find the first hand the easiest of the lot to bluff at on the later streets. Your opp wanted to be all TV-aggressive (I'm coining that phrase) but when he realises you're calling the flop bet too, more often than anytime throughout the game, they will slow down and you can resteal.

I think the first hand is really overlooked because "it's the first hand". Don't do that. I think it can dictate your image and the flow of the game to small part.

Back to the hand - yes, instacall.
