A serious blow to Poker being legal in Pennsylvania

Thomas R. Caltagirone a Democrat is going to support Republican John M. Perzel for speaker of the Pennsylvania House. With the balance of power only being one vote this pretty much kills any chance of Poker being legal in Pennsylvania for the next two years unless someone dies or a Republican flips as well.

Bill DeWeese the Democrat was going to push for Table games and poker to be legal in Pennsylvania. I'm pretty sure that it is not even on John M. Perzel agenda.

All I can say right now is that I'm very very unhappy in PA and pissed at the turncoat.

Well, It's time to send out some emails! Needless to say, I'll be heading down to WVA for my poker needs. I'll make sure I point that out too.

I have no idea why the hell they'd only want slots in the casinos anyways. Wouldn't more games = more people dropping their money?

I've found it funny how they only allow the biggest -EV games to be played legally, slots and the lottery. Gambling's gambling, why not have the table games? Some kind of certification for dealers too expensive?

And IMO while this is bad for poker, its good as a whole since it blocks a lot of Rendell's policies.

This wasn't going to happen within two years anyway. In fact, even Rendell - the champion of casinos - has said that poker isn't coming any time soon.

"'We have to make sure that what we've done... is successful and works well, and whatever negative sides there are to it, that we can control them,' said Rendell, adding that the process would take at least two or three years.

'So,' he said, 'probably not during my watch.' He was just elected to a second four-year term."

I believe that he would let table games be a go if it was attached to some other legistration that he wants. I just do not believe with the Republican holding the house and the senate that this is going to happen. With DeWeese there was a chance because he stated that table games and poker was going to be one of his goals as the new speaker. I'm just hoping that there is one Republican turncoat or that someone drops dead. I guess the only other option is that the Democrat turncoat flips back to DeWeese's side. I would hope that they are talking to him right now.

Not sure if the casinos even want table games. I think the state is getting over 50% of slot profits . I can't believe that table games would be that appealing or profitable to offer unless they make a wholesale change in the current statute. As much as I want to see poker become a reality here, I think we need to wait a few years.

Here's what I see happening: Slots do not generate all the tax relief promised (either due to reality or politicians reallocating the money elsewhere). Then Harrisburg will figure that the shortfall is due to not offering table games and will put them on the agenda. I hope I am wrong though.

PA might be forced into an 'arms race.' I think the casinos will want table games once WV legalizes them. Slots alone won't be much of a draw when they can go to WV and do it all.
