Like many here, I have made a very nice profit playing online the last few years. Also, like many here, I was very upset when the new law was passed.
I did a couple of things that, in retrospect, seem to have been good decisions. First, I decided to protect my bankroll. I pulled back all but a very small piece of my bankroll. The recent performace of the Altria stock that I bought with it seems to have been a good decision as well. I've also taken the last couple of weeks away from the game. I really needed the break. I was having problems with tilt, and I now believe a big part of that was my attitude toward my bankroll. I have cashed out my original bankroll 100x or more in the ast 5 years, and going on tilt and blasting off a few hundred dollars really didn't mean much to me. If casino chips are abstract, credits on a monitor are more abstract, and the fact that you are that far ahead can be intoxicating. I have also started reading again to tighten up my game for the remaining online game which I expect to tighten up(I've been fishing in the Party Poker pond for 5 years now). I also plan to play live a couple of times a week; I'll see a lot fewer hands doing that, so I decided I needed to fix the leaks. I hate the fact that the new legislation has changed our lives, but we are stuck with that for the foreseeable future. I decided to take this time to make some positive changes and let the dust settle. Hopefully, someone out there finds this post helpful in gaining a bit of perspecitive on our situation. Good luck all, Fitz |
