100/200 live game. typical commerce lineup. 9-handed.
how much is a rock worth? (assume you're not going to be a stupid nit and will post it, and won't leave the table with it.) EDIT: for anyone that's unaware, a rock is a forced straddle. 8 chips wrapped up in a rubber band. |

I think you need to be more specific with your question. I am not really sure what you are asking.

It's worthless. [/ QUOTE ] so your EV UTG is exactly the same when you post a rock as it is when you post nothing and play normally? i seriously doubt that. |

[/ QUOTE ] I misunderstood your question. I don't know how much it's worth, but it's definitely worth much less than the value of the eight chips, making tighter play optimal during rock hands. Off the top of my head I'd guess it's worth maybe 1/3 of the value of the eight chips. I have no reasoning to back up that guess. |

it depends on the game. my understanding is that the commerce games are full of spazzy idiots who give way too much action anyway, so i doubt a rock is as valuable in that game as it would be in a tighter game. in tighter games, lots of straddling makes people lose their minds, which is +EV for those who don't.
EDIT: i am assuming that whoever has the rock must straddle with it when they are utg. |

You are asking how much your EV changes when someone puts up the rock for you compared to just normally right ?
It seems like you can play more hands than normally when you have it out as you have position preflop and get better odds, so it has to be worth something. Think itīs much less than the chips though. Maybe a small blind or something like that. |

it's bad to live straddle. it's a losing play. it would make the game a little better but the game is already psycho good. i guess i dont understand what youre asking either.
are you saying: how much better would it make the game for a good player if a mandatory live straddle is introduced? it would be good. i used to play a 20-40 game w/ mandatory live straddle w/ a $20 rebate from the pot winner. it was amazing. |
