the "songs everyone loves" thread got me thinking about this. what cover songs are better than the original?
i can only think of "hallelujah" (leonard cohen) by jeff buckley. any others? |

aside from Hendrix...
Southern Cross by Jimmy Buffet (CSN's song) Ain't to Proud to Beg by the Rolling Stones (not sure) Good Lovin' done by the Grateful Dead Long Black Veil by the Band (not sure again) might be my favorite cover. |

The Beatles' cover was released in the US as a single by V-J on the Tollie label. (It reached #2 on April 4th 1964 - the week when the first five places on the chart were all Beatles singles.)

at least a few people are gonna try to lynch me for this, but I like 311's version of "love song" better than the cure's original. the original was too flat and featureless, and 311 mixed in some cool harmonies and gave it a moodier feel. |
