I'll be moving back into my college dorm tomorrow and was thinking about computer security when I leave my computer on. More specifically, when I leave partypoker on overnight or during classes to datamine some tables.
I'd like to find a program that allows me to password protect my computer when it's idle for 5 minutes or more and goes into screen saver and the monitor powers down. I've enabled windows xp password so that's fine for computer start up. But the option to prompt for password when I deactivate my screen saver seems to only work about half the time. The other half it doesn't ask for a password and my computer is open. I want it to ask for a pw every time my computer comes out of idle mode. I don't much money in my party account but I want to protect against someone using my computer and seeing partypoker open. I trust my roommate very much, but not quite as much if he comes home drunk and decides it's time for a little blackjack action. And I don't trust his friends at all. Thanks for the help guys. |

Doesn't the default windows screensaver do this?

There is an option somewhere to adjust the "idle" time after the screen saver shows up such that you don't have to enter your password. I'm not sure if this option is in the Display Settings or in TweakUI. If it's in TweakUI, just Google it and download it.

Check the "on resume password protect" box in the screen saver tab under your monitor properties.

Check the "on resume password protect" box in the screen saver tab under your monitor properties. [/ QUOTE ] I've done this and it sometimes works and asks for a password to get back on the computer. However, many times it doesn't work and as soon as I move the mouse it turns back on without requiring a password. This usually happens when I'm away for a couple hours as was the case just a minute ago. Any ideas on what I should do to make it always require a password when the mouse/keyboard is touched? |

Beavis nailed it. I have my laptop setup that way and it works pefectly.
I have a question off the subject....you mentioned data mining Party. Can that still be done? I used to do it alot back before they changed the software so that to get the hand histories, you have to be seated at the table and dealt cards. Is there some other way to get that HH I don't know about? I'd love to be able to data mine again. |

the mouse thing only works if you do it right as it pops up the screen saver.
of course, you have to have a password set to log in for it to work. |
