Default Wireless ROuter problems

Hey.

The problem is this, my internet cuts out very often. We at first had a dlink router and the internet just started dying all of a suddent. The wireless network would stay up but the internet would die. We bought a new router, same problem. Even on the hardwired computer the internet dies.

When i say die i mean that poker and irc works, MSN and webpages wont load. IE sits on "Web site found, waiting for...." The tables cut out and with party poker "connection lost". Other times current tables will stay working, but I wont be able to open new tables.

We have eliminted the internet as a problem as it never does this when the modem is directly connected to the computer. Perhaps something isnt configured properly?? Someone mentioned something about DNS.....

Not all that computer savvy anymore

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help

WiLL

i let my neighbor share my wireless connection. his laptop was having strange connection issues, while i never seemed to have a problem. turns out his computer was riddled with trojans which were causing his connection to drop out. make sure your antivirus and spyware are up to date.

Also, call your cable/DSL company and have them verify (from their location) that your modem is working properly. They can usually do a series of tests from where they are at and make sure everything looks good on their side of the modem. I know you said that you don't have this problem when hardwired to the modem, however, if you have tried two different routers and you're having the exact same problems, wired and wirelessly, I'm leaning towards the modem or the actual internet service.

As an extention to what jschaud said - is your network secured?
If not, then you are asking for problems. Anyone could be using your router and killing it.
