Limit .50/1 10 handed
First hand at the table Hero is BB [Kd,4s] UTG calls, 4 folds, CO+1 calls, CO folds, Button calls, SB calls, HERO checks. FLOP [QH,6D,KC ] All check to button, Button bets, Hero raises, all fold to button, Button calls. TURN [QH,6D,KC,2D ] Hero bets, Button calls RIVER [QH,6D,KC,2D,6C ] Hero checks, Button checks. On the flop, I check and plan to fold unless button bets, which happens here. So I raise, to shut the field, which happens also. I assume I lead, so I bet the turn, planning to fold to a raise, which doesn't happen. But what on the river? I thought inducing a bluff was my best option. Any comment on the hand as a whole, and on the river would be appreciated. |

Top pair is a pretty good hand. The river is unlikely to have helped ur opp. His most likely holdings are a K or a Q or a busted draw like JT. If he has a busted draw u should check, if he holds a Q u should bet. In case of a K it doesn't matter what u do. Since there are so few possible draws I like to bet here. Most players are too passive, meaning u have a much better chance of beeing called by a weaker hand than that he would bet a weaker hand. |

I bet the river after the villian's call on the turn. Think you're ahead with top pair and would put the villian on Qx max.

I bet the river for value. We are good ~77% of the time if we put the villian on Kxs- KJs, K7o - KJo, Q8 - QJ, and JT.
Since the river is the 6c, this helps our hand tremendously. If we were outkicked prior streets we are most likely not now and we will split the pot with every other K hand except AK, KK, and K6. |

You really think a Queen would call my check raise and call my turn bet?
Are these guys playing that bad? My thinking was that if had a K, we were to split, so there is no value in betting, except getting the rake bigger. If he had a busted draw, there was no value in betting either. Also, if he raises, I'm dead here. That's why I checked. Including Qx here in his range is somewhat new to me. Malmuth wrote I don't remeber where that top pair with a weak kicker is a dubious hand. That's part of the reason why I err on the cautious side. But thanks for your comment. |

with no read, i really think this player could hold a Q most of the time. Thus a river bet is good here.
if you have a read that the vill will only call down with a TP or better then i would check/call |

I think you played the hand fine, except that you should bet this river. Top pair is a strong hand HU and villian will call you with what very well is aQ

With button calling the turn bet I think the best you can hope for is a split pot, unless you have some read that he bets MP if checked to on the flop. The river check is fine.
