I truly truly find Amazing Grace to be one of the most beautiful songs ever.
Everyimte I hear it allows me to reflect and become happy. (Seriously) |

Oh, the snowflakes fell in silence
Over Belleau Wood that night For a Christmas truce had been declared By both sides of the fight As we lay there in our trenches The silence broke in two By a German soldier singing A song that we all knew Though I did not know the language The song was "Silent Night" Then I heard my buddy whisper, "All is calm and all is bright" Then the fear and doubt surrounded me 'Cause I'd die if I was wrong But I stood up in my trench And I began to sing along Then across the frozen battlefield Another's voice joined in Until one by one each man became A singer of the hymn Then I thought that I was dreaming For right there in my sight Stood the German soldier 'Neath the falling flakes of white And he raised his hand and smiled at me As if he seemed to say Here's hoping we both live To see us find a better way Then the devil's clock struck midnight And the skies lit up again And the battlefield where heaven stood Was blown to hell again But for just one fleeting moment The answer seemed so clear Heaven's not beyond the clouds It's just beyond the fear No, heaven's not beyond the clouds It's for us to find here "Belleau Wood" -Garth Brooks |

"I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die"
Maybe this is a little too well known for most people, but it's the first thing I thought of when I read the thread title. |

"Bodies" - Sex Pistol, doesn't make me shiver in a good sense, but it makes me shiver
"Drive" - The Cars "Brain Damage" - Pink Floyd, kinda cliched but still "shivery" lyrics with the laughter: The lunatic is in my head The lunatic is in my head You raise the blade, you make the change You re-arrange me till Im sane You lock the door And throw away the key Theres someone in my head but its not me. |

Another Pink Floyd selection:
[ QUOTE ] Floating down Through the clouds Memories come rushing up to meet me now But in the space between the heavens And in the corner of some foreign field I had a dream I had a dream Goodbye Max Goodbye Ma After the service When you're walking slowly to the car And the silver in her hair shines in the cold November air You hear the tolling bell And touch the silk in your lapel And as the teardrops rise to meet the comfort of the band You take her frail old hand And hold on to the dream A place to stay Enough to eat Somewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the street Where you can speak out loud About your doubts and fears And what's more No one ever disappears You'll never hear their standard issue Kicking in your door You can relax on both sides of the tracks And maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control And everyone has recourse to the law And no one kills the children anymore No one kills the children anymore Night after night Going round and round my brain His dream is driving me insane In the corner of some foreign field The gunner sleeps tonight What's done is done We cannot just write off this final scene Take heed of the dream Take heed [/ QUOTE ] |

The entire song "Mad World" originally by Duran Duran but only when performed by Sacre, as in the movie Donnie Darko. Most especially the line:
"I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad, the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had" The song "Last Kiss" originally by J. Frank Wilson And The Cavaliers, but only the Pearl Jam cover gives me the shivers. "I hung my head", naturally the cover by Johnny Cash, not the original by Sting/The Police. I don't know what it is with the covers. I don't even normally like Pearl Jam as much as most people do. |

And you
Bring me to my knees Again All the times That I could beg you please In vain All the times That I felt insecure For you And I leave My burdens at the door But I'm on the outside I'm looking in I can see through you See your true colors 'Cause inside you're ugly You're ugly like me I can see through you See to the real you All the times That I felt like this won't end It's for you And I taste What I could never have It was from you All the times That I've cried My intentions Full of pride But I waste More time than anyone But I'm on the outside And I'm looking in I can see through you See your true colors 'Cause inside you're ugly You're ugly like me I can see through you See to the real you All the times That I've cried All this wasted It's all inside And I feel All this pain Stuffed it down It's back again And I lie Here in bed All alone I can't mend But I feel Tomorrow will be OK But I'm on the outside And I'm looking in I can see through you See your true colors 'Cause inside you're ugly You're ugly like me I can see through you See to the real you |

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll Woe oh oh oh oh oh And she's buying a stairway to heaven -Curious, do the younger 2+2ers consider this a classic as much as us old dudes? |
