[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I just got in an argument with my friend and I devied to drink , when I drink I get very philosofical. here is some of my drunk rambling Al: why would people be dumb enough to lose money and keep coming I really doubt there is one losing player that isnt addicted kinda [censored] with me: I mean I have kinda been through this with myself they hit a big score in a mtt donkament and think they are awesome. I mean is it possible to be addicted to gambling and live a perfectly normal life?like if I think every player I beat is addicted then I have to believe their lives all suck. and that just means I am taking monies from peoples lifes who suck, which in turn makes me a bastard [/ QUOTE ] Ima lifetime money loser at golf, fishing, and hunting. That will never change, i will always keep going farther in the hole. I have no intentions of stopping any of those activities. I live a normal life. duh [/ QUOTE ] Not to say you don't lead a "normal" life, but I just feel like any poker player tries to rationalize taking money as "oh its only for entertainment for them" I just think this line is pretty lazy mentally, I just don't really agree with it. It may be entertainment for a few people, but the vast majority of the people we win money off of are severely addicted imo. Of course we all try to rationalize it, but that doesn't change it [/ QUOTE ] your looking for reasons to feel bad about it, seriosly. What we do is no different than a bartender serving drinks. Obviosly your gonna serve some alcoholics, some people are gonna drive drunk. But the vast magority are gonna be responsible people having fun, in control of their behavior. going into a poker room and seeing a room full of addicts is no different than walking into a bar and seeing a room full of alcoholics. Both perceptions are wrong, and both say more about whats going on in your mind than about whats going on in the room. |

[ QUOTE ] Your first error is assuming that it's a bad thing for taking their money. [/ QUOTE ] cool thought, could you elaborate on this? [/ QUOTE ] Well first let me complete the analogy. Money:Addicted gambler is to Drugs rug AddictHow do we cure the drug addict from the drugs? common sense dictates to take the drugs away from the addict. if we simply take the drugs from the addict, further analysis observes that there are withdrawl symptoms and lots of negative side effects. But sometimes this is the road required to rid drugs of the addict. The same can be applied to money:gambling addict. So playing poker is kind of like being a doctor. At what point can we, as playing the "RagMan" of the situation, fail to resist against the drug that is money? |

Bengie,
I disagree with your analogy of "money:addictied gambler is to drugs:drug addict" statement. It's not the money they crave. Taking away their money is more like taking away their syringes. |

[/ QUOTE ] Can they gamble with things other than money? This includes things that be quantified into dollars. To answer my own question, yes they can (Life, to me the only thing that cannot be quantified into money.) At this point they need couseling, assuming they are able to afford the necessary counseling both monetarily and mentally. |
