[ QUOTE ] duck, If you're going to make it as an ACLU lawyer, you'll have to learn to side with these idiots. [/ QUOTE ] which is why the ACLU has spent time defending nazis and KKK members' right to free speech, right? duck, if someone is determined to be offended by something, there is no way you can stop them. so either tell them to [censored] off or ignore it because you can't argue with idiots of this variety. [/ QUOTE ] So we can all agree, most of the people the ACLU represents are complete morans who dont deserve it in the first place. |

[ QUOTE ]
While I am sure that you did not intend your comment to be an ethnic slur, the fact is that slurs against Jews primarily involve some sort of reference to Jews being greedy, primarily money-oriented, or being usurious (I refer you to Shylock in "Merchant of Venice" -- I believe Jews at one time were barred from many occupations except lending money which Christians were either barred from doing or unwilling to do). Thus, your casual modification of Goldin (obviously a Jewish name) to "Gold Digger" can reasonably be construed as an anti semitic slur. Again, constructive criticisim and/or complaints are one thing, name-calling is another. -Adam [/b] [/ QUOTE ] What an idiot. I'm sorry, but I don't go out of my way to decipher Jewish last names. I might recognize certain names as more likely to be Jewish than, say, Irish, but Goldin isn't one of them. Then this "Adam" guy goes on and on about how Jews are money-grubbing? lol. Sounds like he's the one with the problem. Akis has done nothing wrong here, and Adam needs to stfu and do his job. |

I always thought a golddigger was a woman who married or whatever for money.
Lots of Jewish friends with Gold and Silver last names but I never heard this one. GS |

I might recognize certain names as more likely to be Jewish than, say, Irish, but Goldin isn't one of them. [ QUOTE ] ldin isn't one of them. I know that Goldin is a jewish name and I live in Norway where there are no jews. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] I think, like most people, that aside from incredibly different names, we don't associate a last name with race. When I here Flannery I don't think of an Irishmen just like when I here Katzenberg I don't think of a Jew. The only names that trigger an association with race for me are Patel/Singh, Chang/Chan/Chin, and African names with lots of vowels. |
