does ANYONE see ANY merit to this argument? backstory is this guy Akis makes a comment calling Goldin management "golddigger management" in an email to the condo distribution list (because the mgmt co charges a ton for doing mostly nothing)

here is the series of emails:

Dear Fred and CVG folks --

As you can plainly see below, Fred attached a derogatory comment made by Akis about Goldin Managment. While I'm sure this was a mistake by Fred, I recommend that everyone either format your emails to delete prior threads are make sure that you read them before hitting the "reply all" button. Healthy dialogue is one thing but name calling is counter productive IMHO.

I was at Goldin's office today to go over a few financial matters with Robert.

While I was there, Robert mentioned that he had read the "Goldigger Management" comment and was visibly upset about it. He asked if that's how we at CVG refer to them behind their backs. I told him no, it was not, and I apologized on behalf of CVG for the ethnic slur.

It, admittedly, was not wise for me to refer to Goldin as "Goldigger" in an email forum. The comment was not, however, a personal attack on Robert, rather, it was directed at Goldin Management for, in my opinion, collecting our payments and not adequately performing their duty as a management company (cleaning, repairs etc).

I don't see how use of the word "Goldigger" can be construed as an ethnic slur. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word as : "A person who uses charm to extract money or gifts from others".

While it is regrettable that Robert read my email, he continues to ignore our emails. He should, at the very least, respond in a timely fashion with a status. We are, after all, paying for a service.

Dear Akis,

While I am sure that you did not intend your comment to be an ethnic slur, the fact is that slurs against Jews primarily involve some sort of reference to Jews being greedy, primarily money-oriented, or being usurious (I refer you to Shylock in "Merchant of Venice" -- I believe Jews at one time were barred from many occupations except lending money which Christians were either barred from doing or unwilling to do). Thus, your casual modification of Goldin (obviously a Jewish name) to "Gold Digger" can reasonably be construed as an anti semitic slur.

Again, constructive criticisim and/or complaints are one thing, name-calling is another.

tl;dr: guy on my condo board thinks golddigger is derogatory slur becuase goldin management is a jewish name and someone changed it to say golddigger in the context of the group being a horrible management company

Honestly, I think it is borderline anti-semitic slur in this case. I realize that it wasn't intentional, but the whole jewish-money correlation should really be avoided at all costs.

BTW, instead of resorting to childish name calling, why doesnt he just move if he hates management so much?

edit: since he is a jew there is a high chance he is overly sensitive to the "cheap jew" jokes, but that in no way makes you in the wrong here.
