Sometimes the crappy stuff does taste much better for some reason. If Im going to make beanies and weinnies, there is no way Im going to use a gourmet, kosher dog, it straight oscar meyer, like when I was a little kid, pig lips and ear goodness.

CRAB CAKES all day. I love crab cakes, and will be chowin down on them for the super bowl, and leftovers for the next few days. Also, grilling some filet's, and one of my buddies is coming into town from Lousianna and is making gumbo. Brats sound like a fantastic idea as well, i havent had a good brat in probably 3 years, so im going to pick some up. Drinks.. Carlsberg lager, and patron shots for when the colts score. Sunday is going to be badass.

ElD,

Get some scallops and wrap them up in bacon, it's delicious. I forget the exact recipe, but I think someone in the bachelor food thread made them. My dad always threw some together when we were young for thing's like Christmas and New Years eve parties and they always went quick

D,

I know you don't have a crock pot. Buy one($20 for christ sakes) and make this: http://southernfood.about.com/od/fla.../r/bl54c10.htm

You will thank me>

Use toothpicks vs the string them recommend.

I know nobody mentioned desserts yet, but I often bring sweets to events like this. I don't usually want to make a whole batch brownies at home, because then I ... eat a whole batch of brownies. Having the occasion to dump the goods at a friends' house is my chance to bake desserts I wouldn't otherwise.

Obviously I stick with desserts that can be eaten with the fingers and are easily piled, so cookies and brownies are the easy options.

Sam,
me! me! i mentioned dessert - puppy chow is crispix (or chex), mixed with melted peanut butter, milk chocolate chips, and covered in powdered sugar! I added red and green M&M's when I made it around christmas time. It is SO. GOOD. and perfect for just grabbing handfuls of.

Same chipotle wings I made last year. My fiancee said she'd call it off if I didn't make them again:
- Deep-fry the wings
- salt and pepper them as soon as they're out of the oil
- toss in a sauce made with butter, dijon, and this:

YUM!!!

Oh yeah, dipping sauce made with sour cream and gorgonzola.

Chili-cheese dip is always a winner. It works best if you have a crock-pot. It's just a can of chili and a big hunk of Velveeta. Heat and stir. Serve it with tortilla chips for dipping.

has anyone ever heard of hanky panks?

1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. hot sausage
1 lb. Velveeta Cheese
1 chopped onion
1 tsp. oregano
Garlic powder to taste
Party rye bread

Fry ground beef, sausage and onion. Drain off grease. Add oregano, garlic and cheese to hot meat mixture. Spread on party rye bread and bake at 350 degrees for about 7 minutes.
