Not many clues, but have to try:
Nazi-era as pointed out (can be prewar or early war). Later in war a different picture would be used to illustrate the mood, but early in the war Germans still thought they would be winning, not too many people had died, and life was relatively optimistic. It is hard to tell where it is. The shape of the glasses and the color of the tea directs towards southeast, but at the same time the waitress definately does not look i.e. Croatian. Could be Vienna or any other of the east-influenced german cities at that time (Vienna was very international). The waiter looks familiar to the one on the left and the guy on the right reaches out for the glass himself, something which at that time would be considered very rude unless you know the waiter well, so I assume he is family too. So some sort of family home or family house that the Germans have taken (i.e. they confiscated the house of my grandfather and moved in, but he was still allowed to stay in the house even if opposing the occupation, so this was a method they sometimes used). |

Himmler after the war, trying to escape? That would explain the lack of moustache and closed left eye.

it's in krakow [/ QUOTE ] Could be, they don't look Eastern Polish, but could be Jewish maybe (but then a very bizarre picture and would be quite distasteful for most illustrations). |
