I think the Talking Heads' version of "Take me to the River" > Al Green's.

Aerosmith's version of "Train Kept a Rollin'" > The Yardbirds > The Rock and Roll Trio

The Grateful Dead's cover of "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" > Dylan's

Jerry Garcia Band's (and The Legion of Mary's) cover of "Tough Mama" >>>>> Dylan's original

Knockin' on Heaven's Door

(There was just a story about this on the radio this morning, I'm sure people in NYC heard it.)

I disagree entirely. I dont' think guns 'n' roses really "got" dylan's version, and anyone who says their version is better probably doesn't either. it's supposed to be about an exhausted, probably failed, cop, not another sway-to-the-beat-with-our-lighters ballad.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree, when you watch Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid you realize the song is perfect as is.

Not to mention Axl's nasally "HAY HAY HAYHAY YEAH!" before he screeches the chorus. Ugh.

Default Paul Anka and Heavy Metal

Paul Anka has an album in which he does covers of Van Halen's Jump, Spandau Balets True, Billy Idol's Eyes Without a Face, and Survivor's Eye of the Tiger.

I wouldn't say his versions are better but they are certainly different.

Here is a link to that album: Paul Anka Rocks
