Waltzing Mathilda in its entirety. I like the version from The Dubliners the best.

i told myself, today was gonna be the day no more excuses, cause i knew exactly what to say was gonna make my play, but just like yesterday my mind erased, i let the moment slip away another night, got me sitting here all on my own picking up the phone, but i can't get past the dial tone rocking my brain, going insane, again and again i can't keep going this way crushed, by the sweetest lips i'll never kiss and your fingertips, the warmest touch i've always missed crushed, by the softest hands i've never held probably never tell, you're the strongest love that i ever felt crushed, that i haven't ever let you know how it always goes, cause i lose my nerve whenever you get close so i'm left, short of breath, with that heavy feeling in my chest baby i'm so crushed [/ QUOTE ] |

Standing next to me in this lonely crowd,
Is a man who swears he's not to blame. All day long I hear him shout so loud, Crying out that he was framed. I see my light come shining From the west unto the east. Any day now, any day now, I shall be released. Bobbie D |

The National Anthem
Is there any American here who doesn't shiver when they hear it sung halfway decently? |

Symphony X - The Accolade II [/ QUOTE ] This is fantastic, good call. I hope you check this thread again, because I doubt many others on this board enjoy Symphony X, but... In Candelight Fantasia, 1:50-2:10, from where the piano kicks in up until the guitar solo always gives me shivers. Also, the "Mars: The Bringer of War" theme tickles my spine and stiffens my neck hairs without fail, be it in it's original form, done by ELP, or, of course, in Symphony X's Divine Wings of Tragedy (not sure they can ever produce a song greater than this). Rush's Red Barchetta very much reminds me of winter and makes me cold -- a different kind of shiver. In fact, a lot of Rush songs do that to me... |

"the night they drove old dixie down" by the Band [/ QUOTE ] Good one. Also, 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda' and 'The Body of an American' by the Pogues both get me every damn time. And any good version of 'Danny Boy.' I'm a sentimental mick. There's a great live version of 'Renegade' by Warren Zevon which I really like. Sam Cooke - "A Change is Gonna Come" - specifically "It's been tooooo hard living / but I'm afraid to die I don't know what's up there / beyond the sky" Man, Sam Cooke could sing. Speaking of songs by the Band, how about the version of "The Weight" featuring the Staples Singers on The Last Waltz ... when Mavis starts letting go on that last chorus it gets me every time... And my cheesiest pick would have to be Van Morrison - And It Stoned Me NT |
