[ QUOTE ]
Hi balt999: Have you ever spent any time sitting or watching the high limit game. I have. And the abuse that you talk about doesn't exist. The fact of the matter is that players like Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Barry Greenstein, David Grey, etc. are quite professional when it comes to the dealers. In fact, their game in many ways is much easier to deal since when a problem comes up, the players usually agree on a solution themselves and the dealer or floorpeople usually are minimally involved. I do agree that some of the players you see on TV are poorly behaved, but these are not the players in the big game. Best wishes, Mason [/ QUOTE ] Mason, With the players above this is absolutely true. Same goes for David Benjamine(sp?), Gus, Phil. But add Johnny Chan to the game, Sammy Farha, or Jennifer when she goes on tilt and forget it. It's a nightmare. And dont forget "B" he can be a real heartache!! FAR MORE than ANYONE should have to go thru. |

I need to apologize to all for this becoming a bashing thread of the Big gmae players and for it becoming something about tokes as it appears to have degenerated to.
I guess I should have taken more time to word the original post better. The real points I was trying to make was how the folks at Caesars were dumb enuf to offer them the "house" for a mere song, and at others expense and the big game players took it to the limit. Cant blame the players for that! What it really shows is how little poker experience there really is in this particular room as well as the rest of the "company" ie: Harrahs Corp. And this company doesnt want real poker experience. That would cost too much!! As always, ya gets what ya pay for. |

I thought it was already pretty well known that dealers make significantly more money at 3/6 and 4/8 games then they do in the big-money games.
Obviously not everyone in this thread was aware of that. Also - I do think that 'attracting the star players' can have a positive effect on a room. Negreneau's games at the Wynn might not have brought in much traffic. But we have seen several posts on here about 'where to see the big-name TV guys' play and they always get told to just go to the Bellagio. All that gawking when Chan or Harman walks into Bobby's room. I do suspect that some of the customers in Bellagio's room are there in hopes of seeing some famous person (as pathetic as that may seem). I don't know if the impact is any more than neglgible though (as Bellagio would still get good traffic even without the big game). |

I've spoken to several dealers who have stated the exact same thing. The general consensus has seemed to be that the higher the limit, the lower the toke rate and the higher the abuse and grief they get. I don't claim to know this for a fact, but am just relaying what I've heard from several dealers. I'd like to know the OP's (or any other dealers' in here)opinion on what limit is your favorite to deal, when taking into account the toke/grief ratio? |

Well, I don't want to get started in a tipping flame war but $2 per down is just plain rude regardless of the stakes. Chris is a most excellent dealer so they probably want him.

[ QUOTE ] Due to the fact that at some of the regulars in the big game are wired-up, hardcore, action-junkie gamblers who could pass by the craps table and dump more loot than a stoned lottery winner walking his girlfriend through Bloomingdales, it may be worth it. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure if I agree with you, but you still get points for the mental image. [/ QUOTE ] What do you mean not sure if you agree with him? It is either fact or fiction and in this case fact. It's fun watching Giang go on mad tilt at the craps table and blow $200K |

[/ QUOTE ] I've heard from a few dealers who say they make more on the 4/8 tables then at any other limit (these included a couple of dealers from Bellagio as well as a couple dealers from Tunica). Sometimes you get a crazy drunk who wins a $15 pot and tips $5. Of course, every once in blue-moon you can get a $100 tip or higher from a super-friendly guy at the higher limits too. (note - I'm not a poker-dealer...just relating the general table-chat/gossip I've picked up. I'm not nearly as experienced in live-play as most on this forum) |

Then they have to deal with people like O'Neil at higher limits.

You had me all the way until you got to the $18/down part. I'm sorry, but lots of pro players don't make that much per half hour.
As far as the stress of dealing the higher limit games, yes, it exists, but usually there is one player causing most of the fuss, whereas the mainstay players seem to be decent. One time I asked Linda, who has dealt at Bellagio since they opened the doors (and Mirage long before that), how she was treated by Ted, since he had become my friend, and I couldn't imagine him being "abusive" to any dealer. She went on to say that he was fantastic. Then I was told that so was Barry, Danny, Chip and Doyle. Soooo, I truly believe that one or two players are being rude, whereas the rest are just expecting a competent, fast dealer. I also heard that many of the big game dealers are given tokes on the side, by these same "good guys," and that they can amount to quite a bit per down when they do come around. Linda has always been very candid about dealing the big game on her blog, but she has also been honest, that they are getting toked, just not in proportion to the pot size, and I don't believe that is a requirement of high limit play. |

With your explanation, now your point makes more sense.
Does Bellagio still ask for a red per down, per player in the big game to give to each dealer? |
