72 players for the 2K event... ugh. I was hoping for more. Hopefully things pick up as the week goes on...

Congrats on your satellite finish, and thanks for the info.

I went there today to play in one of the $330 satellites. They had 72 players for their $2,000 buy-in event today. The satellite action was quite good. Only 6% juice and the players at my table were horrible. We got down to 2 in one hour, despite 20 minute levels and 3,000 in starting chips (we chopped $1,560 each).

How do they pay out for the satellites? Buy-in chips or regular casino chips or what? It sounds like from your chop it's casino chips/cash and you can walk off with the money rather than play the multi-table tournament.

Yesterday was definitely not the day to hold a poker tournament if you're not Commerce. It's kind of like when ESPN runs cheerleading competitions or some such time-filler when up against the Super Bowl. They just throw the white flag in advance.

They paid tournament chips for $3k of it and cash for the other $120 ($500 tournament chips). My guess is that you can sell them to those who are going to enter the events.

the venetian is having a big effect on the wynn..saturday they had 309 players for the 500 deep stack tourney...10000 chips for 500 or 5000 chips for 2000....plus all the big money is at the commerce for the main event..we will see next week when the money comes back into town.(although the live action at the wynn was packed from 11am on)..pretty smart of the venetian to bump heads with the wynn in march and not try to tackle the bellagio in april..

According to pokerpages.com the $500 tournament got 668 runners. That's decent. Only 72 for the $2,000 buy in, but 169 for the $1,000 buy in. I think the numbers will pick up this week.

I will contribute to the prize pool on Thursday if I can get from the airport to the Wynn in time. Otherwise I will head over to the Venetian since it starts at 2PM instead of noon.

Interesting.

Binion's only managed to get 201 players for the UPC Ladies Event (to be aired on WGN SuperStation in April) on February 9, and Binion's never got more than 150 players (achieved on opening day, October 14) for any of the $340 buy-in UPC televised events.

I actually like the Venetian poker room: lots of space, lots of light, high ceiling.

Sorry to hijack Oliver but is UPC totally dead with Doyle's Room gone now? A buddy was supposed to be on last night's UPC but instead they had an infomercial with Hugh Downs and one for some wonder broom.

I played the $540 first event at the Wynn and we had about 700 runners spread over two days. About 72 of us made Day 2 and they initially told us that 63 would get paid. I was very pleased with this, since I expected that would allow me to really punish the mid-stacks on the extended bubble. Once we were seated for Day 2, they took a "vote" to extend the payout to all 72 runners. They said they needed unanimous agreement. I didn't have the nads to object, but a number of other people did, so they said we would play down to 63 as advertised. A short while later, they announced that they were changing the payout on their own, despite the objections. This eliminated any room to bully on the bubble for me and I busted out around 52nd or so.

It was a pretty decent structure and we all got $20 food comps. I would have played in more events if I had more time in town.

Wonder what Nevada's Gaming Commission has to say about changing a payout schedule mid-tournament?

I wondered about that too. They said that they were exercising their option in the fine print to change whatever they wanted (essentially). It sped up the pace a great deal, but I was a below average stack at that point and I think I gave up some expectation because I lost a lot of fold equity once the bubble burst. I also would have played the last hour of the first day differently if I knew that we were on the bubble then.

I still basically doubled my money, but I'd obviously much rather have a better shot at going deep.
