More Wynn Poker Classic info

I just spoke to the folks at The Wynn after reading an article on cardplayer that said they have 25 tables for their tournament area. I was thinking: "25 tables... hmmm... maybe the events I want to play in will sell out before I get there!"

Not to worry, there are 25 tables PLUS the tables in their poker room, for a grand total of 51 tables. Additionally, the poker room rep. said that she'd be ecstatic if they filled 20 tables in total for most of these tournaments.

does that mean the poker room rep isn't optimistic about the player turnout?

by the way, anyone else planning on playing the first few tournaments?

Well, she didn't say that exactly... I pretty much quoted her directly. But the implication is that yes, she doesn't expect big fields.

I would expect that this is because of two things:

1) This is the first major tournament series that the Wynn has attempted, and

2) The average buy-in's are larger than most casual players are willing to part with. If the events were in the $200-$500 range, I'd expect they'd sell out and then some, but I guess they're going for a more "serious" clientelle.

I'm playing in 4 of the events... if they average 200 players/tournament I'll be happy.

The Venetian is having a two week event at the same time with buy in's from 330 - 540. These are deep stack tournies with starting chips of 6000 and 10,000 chips and 40 minute levels. The Venetian tournies start at 2 pm durring the week and at noon on the weekends. There are also sat's for all events.

I'm playing the Sunday 1k event. Hoping for at least 200 myself. From what the cardplayer article is saying here I think this will be a nice layout. Usually the Wynn doesn't skimp on much.

This is nice that they are going to put tables out on the casino floor near the poker room. It is so much more convenient then putting it in some convention space that is out of the way.

I do not play nearly as much as I would like and I am looking forward to getting into action again. I will be there starting Thursday the 1st for a long weekend.

Agreed... finding the tournament area during the '05 WSOP at the Rio was a pain in the ass. Well, I guess it wasn't hard to find, it just took forever to get to. And then trying to go to a restaurant in the casino during the meal break... fuggetaboutit.
