I loved Miguel Sandoval in Get Shorty: "We're gonna spend the weekend at the Universal Sheraton. Take the tour, see the shark....check out that Miami Vice Action Spectacular." I don't know if it's true that he runs a casting agency and gives himself the best roles, but I'm gonna choose to believe that it is. He deserves them; he's Miguel [censored] Sandoval.
Also, Joaquim de Almeida has been wonderful in what I've seen him in. He would make a great Bond. My submission: Bruce McGill. Michael Mann uses him a lot, and he was especially impressive in The Insider. Usually plays pompous, a-hole authority figures, but does it well. |

[/ QUOTE ] Great actor...yes, he does play this part pretty well...like in Wildcats as that dick head coach of Prescott and in The Last Boy Scout. EDIT: also good in Sum of All Fears.
But one decidedly anti-authoritarian role he played was D-Day in Animal House. ScottieK |

[/ QUOTE ] D-Day from Animal House; I read somewhere that he has been in more movies than anyone from the cast of Animal House except Kevin Bacon. Pretty amazing considering that cast (of course, Belushi ruined his place in the list by dying). |

Brion James:
In every sci-fi movie since 1975. Also Wings Hauser: Many fine movies, and a recurring spot on Rosanne. |

The actors you're talking about are what Bill Simmons refers to as 'that guy's. Those actors you see in a buncha movies and you don't know em by name, you just say, 'you know, that guy who blahblabhlahb'.
My submissions: Jeffrey Wright ![]() Michael Biehn (probably most famous as Johnny Ringo in Tombstone)

Good topic. Of the ones already mentioned, I'm a fan of Bean, Cox, Skaarsgard, although I think they are pretty well known. Also like Stormare and McGill.
Some of my favorites (not all of them are in a ton of movies, but generally lesser known actors): Zeljko Ivanek. Most well-known from Homicide: Life on the Street, although I haven't seen it. I enjoyed his work in A Civil Action, 24 Day 1, Dogville, The Manchurian Candidate. Chiwetel Ejiofor . I've only seen him in Melinda and Melinda but was impressed, I need to see Serenity and Inside Man. Djimon Hounsou. Liked him in Gladiator and The Island. Needs more big roles, even if typecast, makes a badass assassin/mercenary type. Ciaran Hinds. Munich and The Sum of All Fears. Michael Cudlitz. Most known from Band of Brothers. Also in The Negotiator and has had small parts in a lot of TV shows, ie 24 and Prison Break. Jason Isaacs. Probably better known than the above actors. Blackhawk Down, The Patriot, Harry Potter. Gong Li. One of the most famous Chinese actresses and is in many of Zhang Yimou's films, not as well known in the states. Probably too famous for this thread but worth a mention. I think Memoirs of a Geisha was her first major Hollywood role, and she'll also be in Miami Vice. some others: Xander Berkeley (24's George Mason), Robert Patrick (T2's T1000), Jürgen Prochnow (Das Boot) |
