It's the proverbial Apple V. Oranges.
Both cuisines are outstanding. Actually I ate at 'Kevin' in Chicago recently. It's billed as Asian/French fusion. http://www.kevinrestaurant.com/ If you happen to be in the Windy City, hit it up. |

RDH,
There's aspects of Chinese food that I adore. Dumplings are one of them. Overall I'm just not feeling it. As noted above, I've had less high end Chinese than other Asian cuisines. What I have had stuck me as being good, but not as good as korean, thai, viet. |

It's clear that you have to review high-end Chinese with high-end French. And you would compare the food from a neighborhood Chinese takeout joint on the same level as that from a cheap street vendor in France.
I am by no means an expert on Chinese food, but living in New York City and having a Taiwanese girlfriend, I can say I know a little. And if you have not had mooncakes, chicken feet, real char siu, tripe, or pig ears at a Chinese restaurant, I don't think you've had the full gamut of Chinese food to regard a restaurant as legitimate or review-worthy. That is by no means a comprehensive list; I'm sure a more experienced diner can add to or correct that. |
