I'm very introverted towards everyone but my girlfriend of 5 years. I don't think I've made any friends at college this freshman year. They act stupid and I don't feel like being an idiot to fit in. Oh well.

Well, there's a lot of people I wouldn't want to be my friends, but I feel a lot of times I change how I act when I'm around other people, regardless of that. That's what I want to change. I don't want to get new friends or anything like that, I just want to feel less awkward in social settings, that's all.

if you are interested in finding out what works and what doesn't, you can go someplace where no one knows you and just practice chatting with people. find out what icebreakers work and what don't. if anyone asks what you are up to, just say it is a college psych experiment like candid camera without the camera.

the most important thing to realize is that most people are so focuesd on themselves, they really don't care what you do. the good news is that, as a result, most people will think like the other poster, that you are totally well adjusted.

I have a similar perception of myself, but all of my friends and gf think that i'm very well adjusted and are surprised that I think this.

post a trip report if you do.

I think you are confusing shyness with introversion.

I think it may be the setting for me. I'm not a big fan of the whole getting-drunk-to-get-drunk scene. Too much stupidity for me. I'm more about going out and actually doing something fun. So, me and the woman are going to see a show on Friday. I'll see how I act and I'll post a trip report to see if I find out anything more.

Eh, you're probably right. I'm more likely to be an extrovert than an introvert. I like being around other people. I don't feel quite right when I'm not. I'm just awkward and shy in new surroundings.

Read the first paragraph of This , our problem sounds a lot like introversion to me.

Boolean,

don't get drunk, cause you'll throw up on your shirt, act like an [censored], and the next time you see these people it will be even worse. just a couple of drinks to loosen you up a little bit and care much less about what others think.

"me and the woman are going to see a show on Friday"

I don't understand what this means -- what kind of "show" is this? music I guess? in any case not really much socializing going on is there?
