I'd say Trackmania, but that game, though incredibly fun and deep, comes bundled with the most evil and destructive copy protection software in the history of gaming...Starforce. This POS actually caused my CD drive to fail so hard that I had to repartition my hard drive to get it working again. If you're not afraid of the Starforce though you can get a version of Trackmania for free here
So...gonna have to go with PGR...the actual racing is pretty bad as the AI is just horrible & most of the tracks aren't really designed with lots of passing in mind, but the Cone challenges are insanely fun and addicting Honorable mentions to TOCA Race Driver 3 (I hate that this game isn't more popular in the US as it's easily superior to both GT and Forza), Rallisport Challenge 2, and Burnout Revenge. Midnight Club 2 is fun also...rubber-band AI to the max but being able to pick your own route saves it Heh, so hard to choose, so many good racing games out there |

MK64 and it's not close. Liked the SNES incarnation as well.
Was OK at F-Zero on SNES, but didn't like the cheap computer AI. I loved GT2. Top Gear for SNES was pretty cool as mentioned earlier. Wipeout was awesome but the last track was ridiculously tough. Of course, this thread wouldn't be complete without a mention of Road Rash. Or Uniracers. They need to get those on the VC as soon as possible. |

I just finished DiRT, and that was pretty damn fun. The poor multiplayer was the only downside.
Besides that, the original Need for Speed on Panasonic 3DO... The crashes were awesome. This was before the real-life car maufacturers had a problem with their cars getting totaled in video games, and pretty much put a stop to it. DiRT reminds me of those days. Sure, BurnOut is cool for that stuff, but the fake vehicles turn me off. |

I loved Test Drive for C64. The graphics of the cockpit interieur were stunning for that system.
I loved the first Need For Speed for PC (alhtough I don't remember cars getting totaled). I loved the Taxi Mode in GTA3 |

Yeah I'm pretty sure the cars didn't get damaged in NFS on 3DO, they just did a bunch of flips when there was a crash. Still a very fun game.
Road Rash on the 3DO was pretty sweet and had an awesome soundtrack. The FMV cut scenes were pretty damn sweet too. My vote goes to Forza 2. That game is almost perfect IMO. |
