I don't have a big opinion on if Williams actually cheating in this situation or merely broke the rules, however, I believe first prize for that tournament was around 30k so the motivation behind cheating is certanly obvious.

The sad thing about competitive magic is that cheating is basically tolerated as long as you don't make it so obvious that you have to be caught.

I'm indifferent when it comes to Williams. He probably is a nice enough guy who made two very stupid mistakes (porn and cheating) but young people do stupid things.

He just came along at the right time in the poker boom to get some celebrity. Had he been a nobody and took 2nd in the '06 ME we probably would not even be discussing him.

man, i wish i didn't ask, lol. i had no idea he was involved in a pornographic foot fetish video. i guess that's his private life and i don't have any right to critique that.

i simply thought ppl disliked David Williams' personality or style of play. i sorta saw him as a young, arrogant Antonio Esfandiari type who had good aggressive poker instincts, but probably was a bit too mouthy/show-off-ish type. i don't particularly like watching him play, but just was always curious.

ah well. i'm going to have to wipe that view out of my mind and move on........

I don't get all this "LOL at cheating at Magic" talk. It sounds like there was a whole lot of money on the line. I completely understand why people would want to cheat at giant Magic tournaments.

wow didn't know all that [censored] about Williams... I never had a real opinion about him thus far... Thought he is a solid/good player but not an outstanding talent.. After reading this magic stuff I feel a little different.. I have a big problem with people cheating, if it's in a homegame without anything involved it's somewhat less bad.. even tho I still hate it. Honesty and pride is important.. Cheating in a card game, no matter if poker or magic when it's about money sucks big time. Imagine Jamie Gold in a WSOP marking the deck or [censored].. (not that it's possible there) but just to compare it.. I don't think "he was young" is acceptable. I am 22 myself and I don't think ppl make "young kid mistakes" in that age.. It's more about personality.
About his porn thing.. I think it's disgusting but haven't watched it and wouldn't comment on that too big [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]
I mean he isn't hurting someone with that ugly porn (except for his parents) but he is crossing a line cheating in a cardgame.
