Wow, that is impressive. If I ever get really bored, I'll try to beat that. :-)
The Zelda 2 video is seriously odd. |

There are lots of videos of games beaten as quickly as possible in this manner on the site Grivan linked to. I've even done two games myself, so if anyone is curious about how the tools we use to make these videos work or something, feel free to ask me.
Short answer: There are no cheats or game genie codes or anything of that nature involved. Using built-in rerecording features in the emulators, the author has complete control over the controller input, meaning he can choose exactly which buttons to press on any given frame. It's pretty fun to make one of these videos actually, trying hard to find the quickest way to finish a level and all that. Kinda like doing lots of challenging puzzles. |

As others have noted, they use emulators and save states to create these, no cheats.
So basically it's showing you what is hypothetically possibly in the game, if you played each screen as quickly and perfectly as possible. |

Fabian: which games did you do? Last summer I spent some of my free time all over that site and even started making some speed-runs myself, but never finishing any. I was doing SNES Rock 'N Roll Racing (I uploaded a FAQ on GameFaqs on my strategies there) - beating it with just the Marauder. And without using save states, I've been working on speed-running NES' Yo Noid. I can make it through the first three levels without taking a hit and as fast as humanly possible. But I can't manipulate some parts and it's tough to consistently time all the jumps, so I mess up eventually.
