The nature of poker suggests that everyone overrates themselves. This means that ~90% of players will believe at one point or another that bankroll requirements don't apply to them.

This leads to going bust more often than not

So, a very large percentage of poker players will go bust at one point or another

This depends on how you define going bust. If it just means that you have to top up once at a site, after your initial deposit, then most will go bust at some point. Or if it means that at some point your poker net winnings are negative, then early on virtually all players will be bust at some point. If it means that you lose all money you can reasonably afford to gamble with them most decent players will never go bust.

I was bust the day before I started a bankroll for poker. In my first few months, I ran too well while playing underrolled. I didn't go bust but I probably could have.

EDIT: The subject line could be translated as the following: "Most solid players have played with a greater than x% risk of ruin at one point in their careers.", where x should be replaced by an inappropriately large number.

Going BUST can just be a good learning experience. Most poker players start out timid, fishy, passive, overaggressive....extreme of some sort. Add a swing of variance and poof, busto. It happens. Just build a new bankroll and start again. The main point is that SOLID players will end higher than where they began, regardless of a fews busts along the way.

Its easy to talk about bankroll management and say ur 1000bb roll is enough. Hit a 650bb downswing and all of a sudden your 1000bb roll is 350bb. Fail to aknowledge the fact that it doesnt necessarily have to get better any time soon and you can find yourself busto pretty quickly. This is what i experienced in may and without your help Dean. I could very well have found myself among the ranks of those claiming everyone goes broke every now and then. Thankfully you helped me to understand what bankroll management is all about before I had to learn it the really hard way. Thanks.
