Default Re: \"Variance happens....\"

Hi, I am the person who apparently "doesnt take the game seriously" and said "variance happens yes, but you can avoid losses by playing good poker." First of all I do take the game seriously and 2nd of all what i meant was that by playing good poker during times of variance you can LIMIT your losses. By limit I mean instead of losing 100 on a hand you can lose 10. Poker has upswings and downswings and I realize this, and I believe that by playing good poker in NO LIMIT, you can save yourself a ton of money, whereas by playing stupid poker during times of variance will cost you a lot of money. An example of this would be on this hand. Suppose you are 2 off the button with KK and the blinds are .10/.25, you raise 1.25 preflop, and then the flop comes Ad, Ah,Qh, the player before you bets a dollar. If you were playing stupid poker you would call this bet and cost yourself more money. By folding you would save yourself money. This is actually the dumbest post I have ever read and if i recall during our AOL instant message conversation I corrected myself and said LIMIT instead of Avoid after the fact.

After seeing his response, ie- he meant limit losses instead of avoid, I agree. I know I have tossed money away while on tilt or just "running bad" when I know that playing smarter poker would have saved me a considerable amount of money and aggravation.

How many times have you said you quit playing poker because you lose your money? You're a recreational player, short-term. You put money back onto your site because you like to play poker - recreationally.

If you can't afford to lose your bankroll and get upset when you do, you shouldn't be playing.

during times of variance

variance is 24/7, every hand, every session.

If you don't call this bet, you will lose in the long run. What if that player has Qx or any PP? You just lost money that you could have won, which will cost you a ton of money in the long-run. Short-term results don't matter, again being a recreational player, because you are concerned with short-term results.

By folding you LOSE money if he doesn't have an Ace, which I believe alot of times he won't.

And lastly, you changed what you said AFTER I posted this thread.

Why? Because it is about you, or because you haven't read that many?
