Default Re: How many young players out there actually make it???

lets see: had 200, built it up to about 2K playing in low stakes NL cash games. Then I decided to give short handed limit a try, sat in on the 5-10 6 way games, and lost almost all of it in about 2 weeks. I then reverted back to the NL cash games and built it up again and havent looked back since...

<----$20 into $150,000 in 6 months

I was bankroll broke, borrowed $20 from a friend to buy into a local 7 person tourny. I won for net $120. The next day I deposited $100 into party, put $50 into a .5/$1 table and $50 on another. I never looked back.

I now 6-table 10/20 NL.

Wow, what is your PTBB/100 for the different levels? It must be an insane number or you either live on party poker. I mean I try to get in 40k hands a month, played for two months already at .50-1.00/1.00-2.00 NL and have a decent PT/BB and still havent broken 10k.

I won the stars Sunday lottery. And it propelled me to Limit Superstardom. Or the 20/40 tables at least. I was slowly working my way up the Limit ladder, but the big score allowed me to move up to 15/30 much more comfortably. Although, I was full-time 15/30 at that point, but this added much appreciated cushion room.

Awesome - nice job. What Stars lottery- a VIP tourney? How much did you win? Your primarily a limit guy -right? I really liked your post about LHE SNG's.

I play at least 40k hands/month. That $20 tourny I mentioned was on June 25 of last year. My month to month earnings have gone like this:

July: +$10,300 (.5/1nl, 1/2nl)
Aug: +$3600 (1/2nl)
Sept: -$58(1/2nl, 2/4nl)
Oct: +$53k (2/4nl, 3/6NL)
Nov: +$22k (5/10nl)
Dec: +$62k (5/10nl)
Jan: +$3500 (5/10, 10/20nl, 10/25nl)
feb: +$3000 (10/20nl, 10/25nl and ruined at 25/50nl)
mar: + like $60k so far (10/20nl)

in spring 2004 i got started in online poker and played 1/2 nl on pokerstars. I already had somewhat of a BR from a couple good finishes in big chess tournaments when i was in high school. I was up to 2/4 and 5/10 during the summer, but a bad month and school expenses forced me to drop down to a level i was comfortable playing. At the end of the year i had maybe 40k to my name (i would have to pay taxes though).

in 2005 party put in those sweet 1k 6max tables i started making a lot of money, and have never looked back.

now they got 2k 6max, and its even better

i turned $150 into $1500 in a week playing 1/2 and 2/4. Lost it all in 2 weeks sicne i didnt have a clue of proper bankroll management. I was pretty much multitalbing with my whole bankroll. Now im waiting till i save up enough with my job to play so i dont screw myself again.

I started the hard way about a year ago. I had been playing recreationally for a long time but only started getting really serious about it this in January 2005. I had a few hundred in my roll and was playing $40 max live games in college. I ran it up to 2k playing that, and made that into 10k playing 1-2 nl with a little 2-5.

I moved out to vegas with about 20k, but spent way more than I should have in a new computer and TV, about 9k total. Add in living expenses and basically breaking even for the first couple months and I'm down to 8-9k. I'm actively looking for dealing jobs (I dealt for a long time in my hometown poker room) mainly to pay for bills and get benefits. I'm assuming not having bills on my head will help my play; I can also continue to play 2-5 nl instead of dropping to 1-2.

Hopefully, the rest of the year will be better and I can build my roll again like I did last year.
